Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain believes that his side can win the Europa League, whilst reiterating his desire to stay with the club.
The Partenopei will face off against Danish side FC Midtjylland on Thursday evening, as they look to go three points ahead at the top of Group D.
“We want to win every competition the we are involved in,” Higuain told Danish newspaper, Eksta Bladet.
“In recent years Napoli have not won anything, but now it’s time to go back and lift a trophy in Europe, for the first time since 1989 [with the UEFA Cup].
“We want to write another chapter in the history of the club.
The Argentina international then went on to talk about his desire to stay at the club, before touching upon former team Real Madrid and fellow Argentine Diego Maradona, who recently sparked a war of words with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“I am very happy in Naples,” he continued.
“I spent a good period of my life at Real Madrid and I am proud to have won so much there.
“In Madrid there is a lot of pressure, and it’s all blown up. However, I don’t want to think about the past.
“As for Maradona, you can always feel the love that the fans hold for him.
“In Naples he will never be forgotten, he did great things, and I, as an Argentine, am proud to follow someone of such importance.”
Concluding, the 27-year-old looked towards the game ahead, refusing to underestimate his opponents.
“We know Midtjylland well.
“We know they won the championship in Denmark and, therefore they are a strong team.
“I do not underestimate them.”
